It is a great privilege for the new GCKA board of directors (BOD) to send our first communication to members of GCKA.
On behalf of the GCKA community, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the outgoing BOD for their hard work and dedication towards GCKA in 2008-09. We also take this opportunity to congratulate them on their excellent performance.
Given the growth in the membership of GCKA, the responsibilities of the BOD have increased, so also has the expectations of our members. We assure you that we will make our best efforts to meet your expectations.
Some of our planned objectives for the GCKA year 2009-10 are:
· Increase the number of paid members to 300.
· Encourage and increase the participation by new members in GCKA events.
· Organize more opportunities for social interaction between members.
· Explore avenues for showcasing the artistic talents of the younger generation of GCKA members.
· Involve more younger generation volunteers in GCKA functions with an aim to increase their binding with the Malayalee culture.
· Organize sporting events and other competitions for the younger generation.
· Publish periodic e-newsletters on community events, articles, and local businesses of relevance to the GCKA community.
· Provide a web based forum where members can express their opinion, feedback and suggestions to BOD members.
We hope that you agree with these objectives and we request your cooperation and support as we work towards achieving these. Given the context of these objectives we would like to name 2009-10 as GCKA's "Year of Connect and Grow".
The tentative date for this year's Christmas celebration is Saturday December 5th. The cultural programs will start in the afternoon, followed by dinner in the evening. Please pencil this event on your calendar. We will send out a formal invitation in the near future.
