Malayalam Classes

The purpose of Greater Carolina Kerala Association is to promote and facilitate the cultural, educational, social and economic welfare of the Keralites both among Keralites and the surrounding community at large. Aligning with this mission, GCKA currently puts together Malayalam classes for reading/writing skills of our beloved language for our children. This activity is conducted via voluntary help from members of the community and is meant to cultivate and foster our cultural heritage among our children. We initially had this program running for two years at different locations like local libraries, Bond park community center etc. By 2012, we decided to find out a permanent venue for the classes.

We are pleased to announce that the Malayalam classes are now being held regularly at the Lourdes Matha Syro-Malabar Catholic church. The church has graciously accepted our request to rent rooms inside the church building for conducting Malayalam classes for the children.

This venue is located at 225 Bashford Rd, Raleigh, NC 27606. The classes are held for an hour on the Saturday afternoons from 11:00am to 12:00pm.

We have an attendance of 57 children, in three different classes - Manjadi (beginners), Malarvadi (intermediate), and Balavadi (seniors). The seniors can all now read and write in Malayalam with a little help. We have three teachers who volunteer their time and talents for this great cause along with several teaching assistants and four backup teachers.

All 3 classes follow the same text book - Kanikkonna from Malayalam Mission available for download here.

Registration for the 2016-17 school year is now open.

The registration open to all children of GCKA members for a nominal annual fee of $25 per child. Once registration opens for hte next school year, members can register by submitting the fee and a signed copy of the waiver form that can be downloaded by clicking on this link.
